What is GivingTuesday?

Right now, your inbox and Facebook newsfeed might be full of messages about GivingTuesday. So, what is it?

According to Givingtuesday.org, “GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on December 3, 2019 and every day.” Founded in 2012, the initiative has raised over $1 billion for non-profit organizations around the world.

Universities show their support through hosting fundraising events, and organizations like TOMS close their stores until 1pm to give employees time to volunteer. Facebook is also matching donations made through their website.

And, the timing isn’t a coincidence. GivingTuesday always follows American Thanksgiving as a way to encourage gratitude and kindness, which is a great segue into the holiday season.

This GivingTuesday, we hope you’ll think of YWCA Princeton. Below is a video that demonstrates the impact of our mission-based programs lead by our dedicated staff.

A gift of $100 will provide electricity in our building for two days.
A gift of $250 will provide heating/cooling in our building for eleven days.
A gift of $500 means that a teacher can provide 30 hours of child care to our preschoolers.
We understand that a monetary gift is not an option for all of our supporters. Volunteering is equally valued and appreciated–your time is priceless!
