In October 2020, The Attorney General, Division on Civil Rights and other state agencies released the Youth Bias Task Force Report—a comprehensive review of how institutional bias continues to pervade New Jersey and impact young people across our state. The #CivilRightsNJ #StopTheHate report called for sweeping policy changes, including anti-bias training for NJ teachers, strengthening our state’s hate crime laws, and significant changes to classroom curricula. To encourage education and awareness of these issues in the population most impacted – youth — DCR launched the Youth Bias Task Force Student Competition encouraging youth under the age of 25 to submit a slogan/hashtag, artwork design, or video on the theme of #StopTheHate.

The winning designs were announced on April 28th, during the 75th Anniversary of the LAD event.  Winners’ designs will be used in a multimedia campaign to encourage residents to #StopTheHate in NJ and have the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion to share their experiences with hate, stereotyping, and bias, and what they think we should do better!

This exhibition, in partnership with ARTWORKS, showcases racial justice art pieces across four categories.

View the virtual gallery, or visit in-person Tuesday – Saturday from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm.
