In support of the YWCA Princeton’s mission of empowering women, the inaugural YWCA Princeton NEXT GEN Board launched in May 2016. The NEXT GEN Board is one of only two YWCA young women’s professional boards in the country engaging young women in board leadership activities that directly tie in with their interests and talents. Participants are engaged in career enhancement, goal setting, and personal, professional and board leadership development. Board members also work closely with the YWCA Board of Directors and have the unique opportunity to be mentored by influential community leaders in business, education, finance, healthcare, technology and media, while serving on a self-governing board.
The NEXT GEN Board is made up of women within the greater Mercer County area from all backgrounds, including healthcare, non-profits, law, academia, athletics, science and more. The Board is thinking of creative new ways to engage young adults in gender, racial, and social justice discussions, and recently held its first poetry slam fundraiser to raise funds for a speaker and event series dedicated to these issues in 2018.
The ideal NEXT GEN Board applicant is a woman between the ages of 21 to 34 who is at the beginning of her career and leadership journey. Applications to join the Board are accepted twice a year at the beginning of April and October. Please direct questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
