Position Summary:
The Assistant Teacher of The Burke Foundation Early Childhood Center at YWCA Princeton is responsible for the assistance to the general supervision and management of a classroom of children between the ages of 8 weeks and 6 years old. The Assistant Teacher will work under the direction of the Lead Teacher. Have the ability to be sensitive, mature, and have the ability to relate well to both children and adults. Must have the personality, patience, creativity and the ability to provide stability for program continuity and must be flexible to work between the hours of 7:15am-6:00pm.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the safety, security and nurturing of the children assigned to the classroom at all times. This includes both inside and outside the classrooms, on walks, in the hallways, and on field trips when applicable.
- Assist with toileting, diapering, feeding, cleaning and personal hygiene.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds as well as bending, stooping and sitting on a child-sized chair on a daily basis.
- Visually supervise children and staff.
- Participate in daily cleaning routines in accordance with NJ Licensing requirements. In collaboration with the Director of Childcare, Operations and Facilities, ensure that facilities for the Burke Foundation Early Childhood Center are safe, clean, attractive, and meet the state and local health and safety regulations for a childcare center.
- Maintain safe and sanitary use of all classroom equipment and supplies.
- Document attendance, incidence reports, medication waivers, and daily/weekly care sheets for each child in compliance with the YWCA Princeton and NJ State licensing regulations.
- Communicate verbally and in writing in a professional way with children, staff and parents.
- Assist in planning and implementing the Creative Curriculum.
- Assist in making daily child observations, collecting information, and drawing conclusions according to the GOLD assessment program.
- Treat all children at all times with dignity and respect, recognizing that each child has his/her unique qualities, gifts, and needs.
- Give personal attention to each child in the room each day.
- Interact with each child on their eye level and height level, using calm, natural and respectful tones of voice.
- Greet every child, parent, staff member and visitor with a smile and friendliness.
- Assist in conducting parent conferences.
- Maintain effective lines of communication with the children, parents, fellow staff, and Directors.
- Attend all staff meetings and required training sessions, as well as childcare family events.
- Responsible for working at least one 6 hour shift during Tiger Camp weekend.
- Volunteering when possible for YWCA Princeton sponsored events.
- Model values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Function as a cooperative, productive member of the YWCA Princeton staff team
- Mandatory continuation education credits for professional development & requirements for Office of licensing and Grow NJ Kids (July 1- June 30).
Requirements:
- High School Diploma / GED
- Child Development Associate (CDA) or Community College (A.A.). preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with children in an early childhood program.
- Hold or get (within 90 days of employment) an ARC, First Aid, CPR/AED certifications for child, infant, and adult
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Ability to prioritize, be self-directed and work independently
- Ability to work flexibility with a collaborative team of staff members and volunteers
- Must be willing to work with all persons without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status or disability and sexual orientation
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Words, and Excel
- Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English and Spanish

The YWCA Princeton is looking to fill multiple substitute teaching positions at The Burke Foundation Early Childhood Center.

Substitute Teacher is responsible for assisting Teachers in delivery of an effective subject matter in accordance with the Creative Curriculum. Must have personality, patience, creativity and the ability to provide stability for program continuity and must be flexible to work between the hours of 7:30am to 6:00pm.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with individual child or small groups of children, under the direction of the Pre-K Lead Teacher, to reinforce the learning materials and/or skills introduced by the Lead Teacher
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction
- Assists with the supervision of students during periods of instruction, emergency drills, events, field trips and lunch periods
- Assist with lavatory activities and personal hygiene assistance
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. as well as bending, stooping and sitting on a child-sized chair
- Able to work in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the YWCA Princeton
- Responsible for the safety, security and nurturing of the children assigned to the classroom at all times. This includes both inside and outside of the classroom and on field trips when applicable
- Assist in gearing the program to the needs of the individual children, recognizing their differences, special interests, needs, abilities and styles and pace of learning socialization skills
- Assist in documenting attendance, accident reports, medication waivers, and daily care sheets for each child in compliance with the YWCA Princeton and licensing regulations
- Treat all children at all times with dignity and respect, recognizing that each has his/her unique qualities, gifts and needs. Giving special personal attention to each child in the room each day, at the child’s eye level and with a pleasant tone
- Greet every child, parent, fellow staff and visitor with a smile and friendliness. Interact with children on their eye level and height level, using calm, natural and respectful tones of voice
- Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
- Assist in ordered arrangements, appearance and learning environment or the classroom. Assure safe and sanitary use and maintenance of all classroom equipment and supplies
- Maintain open communications with parents and be available for conferences (during, before, and after school hours)
- Work cooperatively with other members of the staff, Directors and maintain an ethical and professional atmosphere
- Attend all staff meetings and required training sessions, as well as childcare family events. Volunteer when possible for the YWCA Princeton sponsored events
- Assume any other duties as requested by professional staff at the YWCA Princeton
- Must model the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
- Function as a cooperative, productive member of the YWCA Princeton staff team
Skills and Requirements:
- Hold or be eligible for a Mercer County substitute certificate (minimum of 60 college credits)

YWCA Princeton is seeking for an outgoing, well-spoken, energetic team player. Typically, the hours are flexible Monday through Friday, however, there are occasionally outreach and fundraising events that do occur in the early mornings, evenings and on weekends which would be required to attend. Remote and on and off-site work is required. Occasional travel within the Mercer, Middlesex & Monmouth County areas may be required.
About Breast Cancer Resource Center
The YWCA Princeton Breast Cancer Resource Center is a support network for women and families who have been affected by breast cancer. Our Breast Cancer Resource Center is part of the YWCA Princeton. We offer comprehensive support programs and education free of charge for any women who has had a breast cancer diagnosis at some point in her life. What we do ranges from weekly fitness classes specifically for those who have had cancer, group support meet-ups, wig fittings, head shavings, healing arts classes, wellness webinars, a woman-to-woman network and so much more. In addition, we provide our community with breast cancer risk reduction presentations, discussions, and set up information tables at various events and venues.
Position Summary:
The BCRC Outreach Program Coordinator position is a mix of program management and community education. Primary duties and responsibilities included but are not limited to:
- Arranging and presenting breast cancer education sessions in our community
- Creating/updating visual presentations for use at the in-person or virtual education sessions
- Setting up breast cancer information tables at community events
- Keeping a current inventory of all breast cancer information pamphlets, brochures, and teaching tools for use at community health events
- Planning, scheduling, execution and follow up for all of our Spanish speaking programs which may include fundraising, healing arts, fitness & wellness, facilitating support groups, salon services and community resources.
- Managing a community pink ribbon breast cancer awareness month program
- Fundraising duties as instructed by the BCRC Director
- Volunteer recruitment and management
- Some data entry and record keeping are also required
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree preferred

- Knowledge of breast cancer as a disease (survivor, caregiver, medical professional) /desire to continue to learn about breast cancer prevention, breast care, screening etc.
