Athletics: Gymnastics
For young children, gymnastics is the foundation for all movement later on in life. For older children and adults, it is a fantastic way to maintain health and physical fitness in a “fast food, couch-potato” world. With training in gymnastics, one becomes a better all-around athlete, gaining individual self-confidence and empowerment while thriving on team support.

General Information
Attire
Girls: leotard. Boys: well-fitted shorts and T-shirt. No tights or socks, as they can cause slipping on the equipment. Long hair should be tied back.
Class Observation
Parents are welcome to observe the first and last class of each session. During the rest of the session, we request that parents wait outside Gym B in the lobby. If you, your spouse, or a relative are unable to attend the regular observation days, please let us know so we can give you a guest pass for a more suitable day.
New Students
Placement in the proper class ensures safety and success. In some cases, an evaluation may have to be scheduled with you and your child, to confirm proper placement. To schedule an evaluation, please call 609-497-2100, ext. 345.
Student Progress Reports
If your child is currently enrolled in Levels 1 through 6, GymAntics, or KinderGym, you will receive a completed Student Progress Report within the last two weeks of the session, to notify you of the proper level for your child when registering. Gymnasts will be evaluated once a year, at the end of the spring session.
Scheduling Make-ups
Schedule a make-up for a missed class by calling 609-497-2100, ext. 345. Only two make-ups are allowed per session, not during the first and last week. Check that your preferred day and time for the make-up is still available. If a make-up class is not pre-arranged, we reserve the right to sit out your child if we are not able to accommodate her or him in class. All make-ups must be scheduled within the current session and cannot carry over into other sessions.
Class Cancellations
If a class has less than three students enrolled after the first two weeks, it will be canceled. We will do our best to accommodate the students enrolled in these classes by trying to find other convenient class times.

New Morning Gymnastics Program
The Morning Gymnastics Program has been revised to meet the growing needs of our community. Classes now are set up as a program of levels through which children progress as they grow and develop. Children begin in the most basic class appropriate for their developmental age. Each class is a pre-requisite for the next, so each child receives maximum benefit and continuity.
Gym Kids I
Children, ages 1-2 (must be walking), with parents. This level will work on self-awareness, spatial awareness, stop/go signals, directionality/movement concepts, songs, and memory. Parents will learn how to assist children on apparatus and during gymnastics skills.

Read about our JOGA Program!
Our YWCA Princeton POWER is a JOGA Competitive Team. The purpose of the Jersey Optional Gymnastics Association (JOGA) is to provide optional gymnastics competitions for high school and high school-bound athletes who currently are not competing in USAG, USAIGC, AAU, or any other gymnastics league during the JOGA season of September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009. (Participation in another gymnastics league during the JOGA season negates the athlete’s scores for use in JOGA during the current season and would disqualify her team from the 2008/2009 JOGA State Meet.) Ages 9-18 only.
Girls who have been advanced to Levels 4, 5, or 6 within the YWCA Gymnastics Program are qualified to participate in JOGA, by invitation only. Participation is not required; however, their training may be the same as that of the JOGA team members.
