Aikido offers kids and teens who want to study a martial art a unique
and powerful option to the "kicking and punching" disciplines.
Aikido, a "throwing"art, is entirely self-defensive. Students
learn how to evade different types of attacks (chokes, grabs, punches,
kicks, etc.) and take control of the situation, neutralizing an
attack without harm to anyone.
New
students are warmly welcomed by kids and teens who have been practicing
for a while. Since the class integrates older students with younger
ones, it offers a rare opportunity for young people from ages 10
to 16 to train together in a cooperative, supportive, and fun endeavor.
Smaller students learn how to throw larger people. Larger students
benefit not only from practice with each other, but also from learning
the sensitivity and control that is developed when working with
a younger or smaller partner.
Kokikai
Aikido students learn not to meet force with force but to redirect
and safely neutralize the energy of an attack. They learn breath
control, good posture, relaxation, and a positive mental attitude.
Kokikai Aikido practice helps them strengthen their concentration
and coordination. Students can carry what they learn in aikido into
their daily lives so that they can remain calmer and more centered
in unsettling situations.
Because
Aikido is a throwing art, students begin to learn from the first
day how to take falls safely, as well as how to throw others safely.
They can gain self-confidence as much from learning how to be thrown
and take falls as from learning aikido techniques.
The
black-belt level instructors emphasize safety, self-discipline,
and sensitivity to others while leading a vigorous, fun class. The
atmosphere is calm and positive, and students have expressed how
nice they find this time in their busy week.
