For more than 40 years, we have been providing free programs designed to help women through the entire breast cancer journey – from diagnosis through treatment, recovery, survivorship, and even recurrence. Our comprehensive approach to breast cancer support and education positively impacts the lives of more than 5,000 individuals each year, and helps hundreds of women learn to live with, through, and beyond breast cancer.
We provide a mind/body wellness program, a prosthesis & wig boutique, and a patient assistance fund – all of which help patients/survivors manage the emotional and physical aspects of the breast cancer journey. Personalized information packs are available to the newly diagnosed. We have a distinguished guest speaker and teleconference series. And, our lending library makes information about a range of breast cancer and survivorship issues available.
Our breast cancer support groups empower and provide much needed support throughout the year. We offer several support groups led by a professional facilitators at our center: “Coping with Breast Cancer,” “Beyond Breast Cancer,” “Advanced Breast Cancer” for women living with Stage IV breast cancer, “Young Survivors” for women under age 40, “Angeles Rosados Latina”. We also provide a woman-to-woman network and private counseling with a clinical social worker specializing in breast cancer. Most groups meet at the Breast Cancer Resource Center in a comfortable, informal setting where they get the support of peers, guidance, and education from recovery and long-term.
wig & prosthesis boutique
We have an onsite Wig & Prosthesis Boutique where breast cancer patients and survivors can be fitted for prostheses, wigs, and mastectomy bras. We offer a wide range of wigs and styles, including multiethnic wigs.
mind/body wellness program
We proudly provide a wide range of wellness programs throughout the year to those with breast cancer that eat in recovery, help reduce the risk of edema, empower women throughout their journey, and help them to rebuild a positive self-image and strength.
A wide range of programs are offered throughout the semester. Our most popular include: “Positively Pink Pilates”, “Strengthen & Stretch”, “Healing Meditation & Yoga”, “Reiki”, “Zumba”, “Water Wellness”, “Spanda® Yoagerobicss, and “Nia”.
outreach education program
Our outreach program brings education directly to Mercer County, central New Jersey, and Bucks County. Trained YWCA staff members are available to meet with community organizations, corporations, places of workshop, schools, to talk about breast cancer and teach women to do self-examinations. Presentations are tailored to the group and may include a workshop to identify women who quality for free breast health services. Through the Susan G. Komen Foundation, we encourage underinsured and noninsured women to get mammograms. For more information or to schedule an outreach program, please call us at 609-497-2100 ext. 346/349.
why your help matters
We are a charitable, not-for-profit organization, and rely heavily upon donations and the funds raised at our annual “In the Pink” Fashion Show Benefit. We are committed that contributions made impact local individuals and families throughout the year, not just during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Other organizations tend to fund cancer research and screenings, which are extremely important, but a void remains in providing specialized support services on the individual level to patients, survivors, and families.
How your support makes a difference:
how you can help
Make a tax-deductible donation to the “Breast Cancer Resource Center at YWCA Princeton”, choose us as your United Way charitable organization, check to see if your company will match your donation, consider us for your planned giving (wills, estate planning), sponsor a breast cancer event or fundraiser, participate in our “100 Ways, 100 Women, 100 Days”, attend our Annual “In the Pink” Fashion Show Benefit (in October).
However you choose to help, you will be making a profound difference in someone’s life. Thank you!
